Showmen at the Hampstead Heath Good Friday fair must not play music that can be heard more than 30 yards away. Local churches petitioned that music be banned until after 3pm because the Good Friday three-hour services from noon have been interrupted by noise from the fair.
A local minister said this was a moral victory for the churches as correspondence about the noise had been going back and forth since before 1900 and this was the first time that anyone had made a concrete promise about it.
A request by residents for a bus shelter at Golders Green tube station is turned down by London Transport on economy grounds. A local man says he saw men working on the flower beds, putting down flowers in the shape of a scout's badge. "Shelters ought to be erected instead of spending money in this way," he said.
