Gertie Gihana, one of the greats of all British music hall stars, who immortalised the song Nellie Dean, dies at the age of 68. She named her home in Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, Neldean in memory of the song.
The nine children of railwayman James Sullivan who were orphaned when he was killed on the railway nearly two years ago, have been unofficially adopted by the men of Hampstead and West Hampstead police stations. They joined the annual Christmas party given for the children of local policemen in St Stephen's church hall in Pond Street. At Christmas the police gave Mrs Sullivan a turkey and baskets full of groceries and presents.
For offering a £1 note to a police officer after he had been stopped for driving at more than 20mph in the Outer Circle, Regent's Park, a Kentish Town man is fined £25 with costs.
