In the latest march of The Boxpark phenomenon, a warehouse-style space has brought cutting edge street food and a slice of east London cool to Wembley.

The original pop up mall opened in 2010 in Shoreditch, offering affordable and flexible leases in refurbed shipping containers.

Populated by cafes, reastaurants, galleries and lifestyle brands, it became both a foodie destination and a spur for creative entrepreurship.

After popping up down south in Croydon, the Boxpark folk now hope to capture the crowds flocking to North West London’s sports and entertainment venues with their biggest venue yet with units taken by Nanny Bills, Ugly Dumpling Cut + Grind and Drums&Flats.

With table tennis, pool, shuffleboard, the Beatbox Bar and large screens to watch major sports events - or on our night - as a backdrop to electric performances by music stars Ray BLK, Jaz Karis and Joy Crookes, there’s a dynamic buzz to this ultra modern venue in the shadow of the Wembley arch.

Roger Wade CEO of Boxpark praised Brent Council and Wembley developers Quintain for supporting and helping them through the two year planning and construction process.

“People say the High Street is dead but if you build something special you can prove them wrong,” he said.

Treated to tasters from 24 different outlets, the pick of our smorgasbord was intricately spiced samosa and chickpea chaat from local Wembley food heroes Spice Shack, signature Thairacha wings from Thai Express, and the pinkest and juiciest of burgers by Cut+Grind complete with cucumber pickles and an awesome depth of caramelised flavour.

We plan to bring our kids back for Nanny Bills’ meltingly good Mac N Cheese croquettes, and Zia Lucia’s intriguing slow fermented black dough pizzas - ours topped with fresh sausage, taleggio goat cheese, pecorino cheese, and truffle honey was a revelation.

Already a fan of their Upper Street, Islington, store we were blown away by the gorgeousness of Udderlicious’ dark chocolate and sea salt sorbet.

The 20,000 square metre Boxpark on Engineers Way hosts a rocking opening weekend with a Rinse FM takeover and DJ sets on December 8 and 9.
