Last year saw the successful return of classical music concerts to Kenwood House after a break of five years.
Now the first act for 2019’s Heritage Live series has been announced as operatic big beast Jose Carreras.
The world famous tenor’s 16 June date in the grounds of the Hampstead Heath mansion will be his goodbye to London as part of his farewell world tour.
For the second year running Giles Cooper Entertainment is programming the concert series, with the remaining line-up to be announced in the coming months.
The Heritage Live concert series will run across the weekend of June 14-16, 2019 and continues the long and distinguished tradition of outdoor music concerts on the Heath.
Carreras is famously one of the Three Tenors, alongside Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
He started his career nearly 50 years ago in native Barcelona, singing Nabucco and Lucrezia Borgia and rose to fame in the 1970s making debuts on the world’s most prestigious opera stages from The Metropolitan Opera in New York to the Royal Opera House in London and the Vienna State Opera.
An iconic figure, he has sung more than 60 roles from operas including works by Verdi and Puccini and created memorable productions including the famed Franco Zeffirelli version of La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera.
He has also recorded extensively - both classical and popular music - selling 80 million records worldwide and winning Grammys BRITS and Olivier awards.
Fans can expect the tenor to dip into his vast repertoire for his Hampstead concert, which features his regular collaborator David Gimenez conducting the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and rising star Christina Johnston.
The soprano made her operatic debut in 2012 and has since performed numerous roles in Russia, Prague, Germany and Austria.
Priority pre-sale tickets for Jose Carreras’ only London date of his tour go on sale on November 28 through ticketmaster.co.uk, and on general release on November 30.
