Headteacher Georgina Masefield put on a hard hat and stepped onto a building site to mark the start of a £1.8million sports hall development at North Bridge House Senior School.
Work began on a new sports hall at the school in Rosslyn Hill, Hampstead, with a ground breaking event last Tuesday.
The hall, which will offer badminton, gymnastics, football and cricket, will also be used as a concert hall for drama and music performances.
The development follows the school’s move in September from its old site in Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, to the Rosslyn Hill site, formerly used by the Royal School Hampstead, which merged with North Bridge House last September.
Mark Ashley, the school’s head of sport, said: “This is something we’ve always wanted, and I can’t wait for the hall to be completed so we can begin to teach PE and sport to our pupils on site.”
Mrs Masefield added: “With this investment, we are certain to see a glorious hall for our pupils.
“I have absolutely no doubt that they will make the most of this opportunity, and we look forward not only many sporting events, but also to some truly wonderful performances in the new building.”
