Swiss Cottage School has become one of a handful of schools to be given an “outstanding” Ofsted rating for the sixth time in a row.
The school, which caters for children aged between two and 19 with complex educational needs, is the eighth school nationally to go on such a run after receiving top marks once more from its first inspection since 2014.
Inspectors visited the Avenue Road school in May and found that the “strong teamwork among staff supports highly effective planning of lessons and personalised plans that are linked to pupils’ education, health and care plans.”
The report also highlighted the “innovative, varied and stimulating” curriculum”, as well as the “exemplary leadership”, with inspectors telling leaders that they “all live the school’s vision daily.”
Principal Vijita Patel: “The staff work with such passion, determination and expertise to make sure our pupils are embraced in society for what they ‘can do’ instead of their label of SEN.
“Every aspect of our school provision promotes the holistic progress of our pupils. We are not a ‘one size fits all’ model, and embrace a professional learning community ethos so that research informed solutions always develop our thinking and approaches.
“We are very proud of this inspection, which recognised the impact of our personalised provision which is informed by our partnership with parents, carers, and a range of professionals.”
Back in February, governors announced that the school had applied to be turned into an academy despite only seven parents backing the proposal in a consultation, but the school says that no decision has been reached at this stage.
The school had held a consultation with parents, staff and members of the leadership team to discuss plans to break away from Camden Council control and become an academy.
Chair or Governors Peter Sprinz added: “It’ a great honour to be associated with a six times “outstanding” school.
“The judgement reflects the extraordinary care, devotion and work carried out by all the staff and the thoughtful leadership team.”
