A rugby star who has played for his country gave University College School (UCS) boys professional coaching at a tournament hosted at the Hampstead school.

Eight independent schools, including UCS, took part in the under 10s rugby competition, where Year 5 boys competed against each other in an attempt to win coveted prizes.

Unlike last year, UCS did not make it into the final of the tournament held at the school’s playing fields in Ranulf Road, Fortune Green.

Instead, Catholic St Columba’s College in St Albans and Gayhurst School in Buckinghamshire fought for first place, with St Columba’s winning 10-0.

Prizes were awarded by Welsh rugby player Alex Walker, who has represented Wales in the under 19s team and plays for Cardiff Rugby Football Club.

The sports star also led a coaching session for the nine and 10-year-olds, teaching them some of the secrets of his success.
