Hornsey School for Girls teachers went on strike last week following allegations of ‘bullying’ from management, but Haringey National Union of Teachers (NUT) have suspended two further strikes.
The school issued a public statement which said: “Haringey NUT and the headteacher and governors at Hornsey School for Girls have started constructive talks to resolve matters which have resulted in strike action...
“Both sides would appreciate a period of calm to enable solutions to the dispute to be identified and to allow teachers to continue their work in preparing students for exams.”
Staff at Hornsey School for Girls, rated “Good” by Ofsted, walked out last week amid allegations of staff facing public humiliation, including being ridiculed and belittled in meetings.
The NUT claimed relations between headteacher Kuljit Rahelu and staff had broken down.
But now the Chair of Governors said there has been a “helpful” meeting with Haringey NUT.
In a public letter to parents, Chair of Governors Keith Embleton wrote: “Last Friday morning there was a very helpful meeting with the NUT where the Governing Body proposed commissioning a series of measures to address concerns raised by staff atthe school.”
He added: “The parent governors conveyed very clearly the views expressed at the meeting held last week for parents and the need for the governing body to be able to communicate more effectively with parents.
“We will address this as a governing body, with in the first instance, the particular help of parent governors working with the Chair to reply to parents’ queries.”
“One governor will lead a working party to develop a longer term sustainable strategy.
“Also, some governors have been invited to attend school council meetings and the head girl has been invited to attend governing body meetings.”
