A Hampstead school table tennis team is going for glory after getting through to the finals of the table tennis national school team championships.

This is the second time the team from University College School (UCS), in Frognal, have won a place at the last stage.

They secured their place by winning the regional finals in Bristol which saw UCS face a player ranked number five in England.

Matt Crawcour, whose son Toby plays for UCS, said: “This is an outstanding achievement considering all the finalists have table tennis academies at school and play 10 to 15 hours a week.”

This year’s team had a tougher route to the final only finishing second in the central London county finals. But they made a comeback by winning the Zone Central London final.

Ben Barbarash, Toby Crawcour, Jacob Zakaim, Max Conway, Oskar Gershfield and Tommy Lyons now head to Hinkley, Leicester, for the final.
