Comedian and novelist David Baddiel will join other literary celebrities at a Camden school’s annual book sale next week.

Novelist Louise Doughty, author and playwright Deborah Levy, who was shortlisted for the 2011 Booker Prize, Mr Baddiel, and his partner, the comedian Morwenna Banks, will all give readings from their works at the Camden School for Girls book sale on Saturday, November 30.

Actress Emma Thompson, who lives in West Hampstead, will also donate signed copies of her books to win in a raffle.

Organisers of the annual event hope to raise a healthy sum for the Camden Town school in Sandall Road.

Mr Baddiel, who lives in Hampstead with Ms Banks and their two children, said: “It’s a really good school but, like all state schools at the moment, desperately in need of cash.

“I think if you can raise some money for it, while getting children interested in books, that’s killing two birds with one stone. Although I wouldn’t want to condone the indiscriminate murder of winged animals with any kind of slingshot.”

Organisers are asking pupils and parents to write a story in a Tweet or on a postcard, with the best entries winning prizes at the book sale, which runs from 1pm until 4pm.

As well as second-hand bargains, visitors will also be able to get their hands on first editions and antiquarian books.
