A Coldfall Primary School student has been named as the number one ranked under-10s table tennis player in the country.
Year 5 student Sam Gabriel’s interest in the sport started in the playground, which led to an after-school table tennis club being started.
In September Sam was invited to upgrade and join the master class with Urban Spin, becoming their youngest player.
He has competed in four tournaments this season winning one, being a runner up in another and also reaching a semi-final. These results have enabled Sam to become the top ranked player for his age. The aim now is to qualify to the National Championships in June and trying to become the national champion.
PE teacher Mitchell Browning said: “We are all unbelievably proud of Sam for his hard work and commitment. His individual success has helped increase the profile of table tennis in the school.”
