Eco-warriors threw a party to celebrate raising enough money to buy solar panels for the roof of their girls’ school.
Members of the Green Club at Camden School for Girls in Sandall Road, Camden Town, raised £27,000 for panels in a fundraising campaign launched earlier this year. The panels are predicted to cut the school’s carbon emissions by nine tonnes and will save £3,400 in electricity bills.
The school is the first in Camden to have solar panels installed.
To mark the campaign’s success, Holborn and St Pancras MP Kier Starmer attended a celebration at the school last week where he praised the club’s efforts.
Headteacher Elizabeth Kitcatt said: “We intend to incorporate learning about green energy into the curriculum to engage young people in this crucial development.”
