An Oxford-bound Westminster Academy student has achieved a stellar score in her International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

With an average grade of 33 points, IBDP students at the academy once again surpassed the world average (29.95) this year.

Top achiever Nevena Slavova achieved 43 points out of a possible 45, which earned her a place to read geography at the University of Oxford.

“I am mostly feeling relieved,” she said. “I knew that I had prepared well and I am now really excited about going to university.”

Classmate Tohin Munshi also achieved an outstanding set of results, scoring a total of 42 points and securing a place at the University of Cambridge to read history, while Momoko Kawase-Kennedy will be starting her undergraduate degree in English at Oxford in September.

The hard work of International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) students was also rewarded, with more than half of the cohort meeting their offers for places at Russell Group universities.

IBCP graduate Abdulaziz Ibrahim was “shocked” to receive his university offer at UCL. Born in Germany, he arrived in the UK at the age of 14 with barely any English and has worked hard since to put himself into the position to attend a leading university.

He said: 2I have learned from the sixth form to make the most of opportunities, and that anything can happen; anything is possible.”

Principal Dr Saima Rana said: “In a recent report among university admissions officers, alongside academic strength, IB programmes have been rated best at encouraging a global outlook and intercultural skills, nurturing open minds and developing independent enquiry.

“In the divisive times we are experiencing in the world today, we are proud to see these qualities among our Sixth Form graduates and are assured of their utmost success in the future.”
