A rare Grade II*-listed Georgian house lived in by one of the 20th century’s leading architects is on the market.
Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, an influential British landscape architect and town planner, lived in the house in Grove Terrace - "arguably north London’s finest terrace" - in Dartmouth Park, between 1936 and 1984.
The four-storey three-bedroom home, which has a blue plaque bearing his name, is now on the market for £2.75 million.
Estate agent Dexters says that the house, which dates from about 1780, has three reception rooms and two bathrooms as part of its 2,000sq ft of space.
It is said the property is “rarely available” due to its link with the architect, who lived in the house with his wife, Lady Susan Jellicoe, for nearly 50 years.
During their time they lived there, the house was used as a creative space to design many of Sir Geoffrey’s projects and to write his books.
Sir Geoffrey became the first chairman of the Grove Terrace Association, founded in 1962.
In their own garden, the Jellicoe household created a series of 'rooms', enhanced by trees and a paved pathway they referred to as "the philosopher’s walk”, and a white trellis.
He referred to his own and neighbouring tree-filled gardens as together creating “a marvellous green city.”
The home is within walking distance of Gospel Oak, Tufnell Park and Kentish Town stations.
