Rob Frampton gave the Brent Cross side the lead in Saturday’s game and Wischusen made it 2-0, but Woking pulled a goal back through Jamie Hutchin before half-time.

A second for Wischusen restored WH’s two-goal advantage, but they failed to kill the game off and lost their discipline in the second half, with both Allan Williamson and Ben Battcock picking up yellow cards.

Christopher Wray netted a second Woking goal to ensure a tense finish, but Ally Brown held firm with a number of key interceptions at the back as West Hampstead held on to climb above Lewes into second place.

They now trail leaders Oxford Hawks by just three points with a game in hand and vice-captain Tom Bullock, who led the side on the day, said: “We played well, if unspectacularly.

“We matched them physically and showed more composure in their D which ultimately won us the game. The result puts us in a very good position with a season-defining few weeks looming large.”

WH are at home to bottom side Slough on Saturday and are back at Brent Cross a day later, when they face Letchworth in the last 16 of the EHB Cup.
