Boy racer Brandon Abraham faces a date with destiny this weekend as he aims to win the rookie title in the Super One British Karting Championships and secure free entry to next year’s competition.

The teenager, who lives on The Avenue in Wood Green and attends Highgate Wood School, competes in the Mini Max (11-15) age group of the championship, following in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and David Coulthard.

Race weekends can cost Brandon’s father Paul £1,300 each, but if the teenager finishes top of the list of new drivers then he will compete for free next term.

The final event of the seven-race series starts tomorrow (Friday) and Abraham has ground to make up. While he has won two Rookie Cups so far, he lies third in the rankings behind Ben Burgess and Oakley Pryer – 12th in the overall championship.

He will need to score 26 points more than Burgess over the three days of the event in Lincolnshire.

However, he is on home turf at the PFI track – where his new team, Litchfield Motorsports, is based – and, aptly, the circuit is based in a town called Brandon.

Paul Abraham said: “This race is season-defining. The season has been long and hard – unexpected costs and mechanical failures have made it difficult. The logistics of attending every race has stretched us to the limit.

“Brandon would be leading the championship if not for track incidents which were beyond his control, but we are going to Brandon’s best circuit in a town that bears his name.”

Brandon added: “It’s a really important round and I’m going to push really hard for it – not only for me but to aid my father’s expense for next year’s season. I wouldn’t be here without him.”
