Director of rugby Nick Warren wants a continued improvement on the pitch as he prepares his side to take on National Two South league leaders Worthing on Saturday.

Looking at the form guide, Barking are on for a hiding to nothing at Worthing on Saturday as the bottom side in National Two South make the trip to the league leaders.

And though director of rugby Nick Warren knows it is a hard task to come back from Sussex with anything, he is after another improved performance from his side.

“If you judge it on the form guide it has us not getting anything from the game,” said Warren.

“But my main message to the players and coaches is for us to just focus on what we are doing. There has been a lot of improvement since I came in and hopefully that will continue. We are after an 80 minute performance and it isn’t all about the result.”

Going into the match, the Goresbrook outfit will be boosted by the return of wingers Stephen Hihetah and Scott Shaw, who were unavailable for the 43-10 loss to Canterbury on December 22.

Warren has been able to add some players to the squad over the two-week break in the forwards department, who will be introduced to the squad tonight (Wednesday) in their session at SportHouse.

“Steve and Scott will come straight back into the side and we’ll make a decision on Wednesday at training whether the new signings come straight into the squad,” said Warren.

“But aside from Steve and Scott I don’t envisage any changes.”

Some of the club’s younger players got a run out on Sunday in a 12-a-side under-23 tournament at Gale Street.

Warren was pleased with what they got out of the matches against Westcliff and Brentwood despite defeats.

“For a lot of them it was their first taste of senior rugby, while for others it was just an opportunity to get some minutes and blow away a few cobwebs.”
