Hampstead’s ladies are through to the semi-finals of the RFU Women’s Intermediate Plate after triumphing 19-3 away at Wimbledon.

The visitors trailed at the interval, but Robyn Drake, Rachel Berry and Fran Hall touched down in the second half, with Kerrie Tuck converting two of the scores, to take Hampstead into the final four, with the tie due to be played on March 16.

It was a classic game of two halves, which was predominantly played in the centre of the field in the first period as the opposing sides fought for territory with a some hard-contested scrums and line-outs.

It was Wimbledon who got the first points on the board after winning a penalty inside the Hampstead 22, and they held that lead until the break.

However, the visitors increased their intensity and aggression and Drake scored a try right from the kick-off.

It seemed the winger was going to double her tally soon afterwards, only to be caught by the full-back – but Hampstead’s own full-back Berry had raced up in support, and she received a lovely off-load before stepping past a couple of players and dotting down under the posts.

Tuck slotted over her second conversion and, after another lengthy period of pressure, Hall added a final try to put the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile, Hampstead’s men were defeated 31-5 away at Twickenham in London North-West Divsion Two on Saturday, with winger Kenny Loakman scoring their solitary try on the hour-mark.
