Prop Kieran Longbottom was delighted to have made his Saracens debut as the Londoners beat Ospreys 39-5 in a pre-season friendly at the HAC in the heart of the city.

Sporting their new black Nike kit, the Sarries scores came from David Strettle, Billy Vunipola, Richard Wigglesworth, Ben Spencer and Rhys Gill but it was a first chance to see the new Australian tighthead in action, who who signed from Super Rugby outfit Western Force and joined up with the squad earlier this month.

After a 50 minute run-out Longbottom, 28, told the club’s website: “It was really good to be out there.

“On a personal note, it was great to have played my lungs out a bit, and put a couple of good scrums in out there. I can move forward from here and look to hopefully get better and better.”

It was a first hit-out that Saracens forwards coach Paul Gustard was pleased with, saying: “I thought he did great out there. Kieran has fitted in really well with the squad since the self-proclaimed K-Bomb has come over from the Western Force.

“We’ve got four very good tightheads at the club in Juan Figallo, Petrus Du Plessis and JJ [James Johnston], and hopefully they will strive and push each other. I think Kieran had a very competent debut today.”
