League One: London Skolars 60 Hemel Stags 12

London Skolars ran in 12 tries in an emphatic victory against local rivals Hemel Stags as they romped to a 60-12 victory.

There was an early scare when Hemel’s Mitch Vincent scored in the second minute after the Stags had made a 40-20 kick, but afrter that it was very much one way traffic as Skolars’ forwards dominated.

Ryan Chester opened the scoring for Skolars, but it wasn’t until Sam Nash dived over in the corner midway through the half that they took the lead.

Phil Lyon made a diagonal run to score on his home debut and Skolars were 20-6 up at the break when Lamont Bryan forced his way over late in the half.

Hemel’s chances of a comeback were dented after the half-time hooter when Daniel Samuels was sent off for dissent.

Skolars took full advantage of the extra man with Louis Robinson and Sam Nash both scoring easy tries.

Charlie Lawrence kicked a 40-20 and with the defence still trying to get back, Eddie Mbaraga got close before offloading to Brandon Pickersgill.

Sam Nash scored further two tries in three minutes to finish with four.

Erjon Dollapi made a 40 metre run to score, then Michael Sykes dived over from dummy half. After Bryan and Reece Williams had been yellow carded for their involvement in a fight, Josh Halliday made an interception, which led to a consolation try for Hemel by James Thornton.

Skolars made the final with Mbaraga pushing through a weary defence. Lawrence kicked his sixth conversion, but he and Lyon both missed three attempts.

With the side out of both cup competitions, Skolars have a a three week break before they travel to Doncaster next month.
