Fiona Majorin scored a hat-trick as Hampstead Ladies’ second team ended their season on a high with a 25-19 win over their promotion rivals Hackney on Sunday.

Majorin’s treble was followed by a score from Delphine Tsirane, leaving Hampstead top of the table after their final game in South East East Division Two.

However, second-placed Medway are just four points behind with a game in hand, and fourth-placed Canterbury are eight points behind with three games in hand, so both teams can steal the title.

Hackney took the lead at the weekend but, after solid rucking from the forwards and several try-saving tackles during the first half, Hampstead fought back to take a slender one-point lead into the interval at 15-14.

Hackney came out quickly after the break, scoring a try and reclaiming the advantage. But Hampstead didn’t let their intensity waver and Majorin touched down for the third time in the match to complete her hat-trick, putting the hosts 20-19 ahead with minutes to go.

A final try from Tsirane put Hampstead out of sight and secured a more comfortable score-line – and they have now done everything they can as they wait to see how their rivals fare in their final fixtures.
