Muswell Hill Golf Club was at its pristine best as it played host to the leading women amateur golfers in southern England in glorious sunshine last week.
The competition, which was staged at the 121-year-old course on Rhodes Avenue for the very first time, is the annual showcase for the top players from five counties – Middlesex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and the eventuual winners, Hampshire.
With nine points at stake in each match – three foursomes and six singles – Hampshire completed victories over each of their four rivals, amassing an impressive 28 and a half points out of a possible 36 in the process.
When they teed off on the Friday, Hampshire only needed to halve one match against the 2013 winners Kent to secure their place in the national county finals at Belton Park Golf Club in Lincolnshire, from September 15-19.
In the end they went one step further and won that showdown as well, completing their triumph in some style with an emphatic 7-2 victory.
