Wingate & Finchley’s winless league run stretched to five games as two defeats in the space of four days sent them slipping down the Ryman League Premier Division.

The Blues were beaten 3-2 at home by Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, and followed that with a 2-0 reverse at Bury Town on Tuesday evening.

Wingate have not won in the league since a 3-0 victory over neighbours Enfield a month ago, and although they remain eight points clear of the drop zone, it is a trend that Daniel Nielsen’s side need to reverse when they host Met Police on Saturday.

There were, at least, positive signs in Saturday’s clash with promotion-challenging Dulwich – which was witnessed by Arsenal Ladies star Rachel Yankey – despite Ian Daley’s first-minute goal for the visitors.

Erhun Oztumer made it 2-0 in the opening stages of the second half, before Leon Smith replied for Wingate and Dean Mason then rolled in an equaliser.

However, Ellis Green converted a cross in injury-time to deal a cruel blow to Wingate and give Dulwich a flattering victory.

On Tuesday, the Blues began brightly against Bury, with Mason firing a vicious cross through the goalmouth, but the home side quickly asserted themselves and took the lead when Ola Williams turned the ball, into his own net.

And Shane Tolley wrapped it up by poking in from a corner.
