Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor says he is hoping to share Spurs’ scoring duty with fellow striker Jermain Defoe as they prepare to face Aston Villa this afternoon.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City star was first choice striker for Spurs under former boss Harry Redknapp but he has been sidelined by injury this season, allowing Defoe a run of games in which he has scored four goals.

But rather than replacing Defoe in Spurs’ starting XI, Adebayor hopes the pair can work together to bring out the best in eachother.

“We’ve got a good team and a good squad,” said Adebayor.

“As for Jermain, I have huge respect for him and he knows this already.

“I’ve told him that if I can come back and make him the top goalscorer in the League then I’m happy to do that.

“It would be my pleasure to help him score more goals.

“I am not a selfish player, I want to share and hopefully he will be the man who will score to give us victory over Villa.

“The club are happy having me and I’m happy playing alongside top players like Jermain, who is on fire at the moment, Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey, who is an unbelievable player.’
