Lauren Pickett says Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will be psychologically ready and be in a strong physical condition when they head to Chelsea Ladies on December 6 for their final, and all-important, Continental Tyres Group Two South clash.

Spurs recovered from back-to-back defeats to return to winning ways recording a 1-0 victory against Watford in a behind-closed-doors-friendly at Hotspur Way, following a striking 30-yard lob from Pickett.

And the pacey forward pointed to the confidence boost their grit and determined performance has served the squad, which as she states is full of unity.

“It’s really good, I got to play 90 minutes which was ideal for me, but from a team performance I thought we played really well,” said Pickett.

“We battled and managed to keep a clean sheet which is always good. We’ve managed to keep our strength up, so when we play Chelsea we’ll be physically ready and mentally prepared for the game. It was a good stepping stone for us.

“When you’re not playing, you just want to play; then having a week off (after Doncaster) you just want to be right and get stuck in there. I just felt Watford was the right team to play – a physical team and our build up play was good.

“It’s great to have that support behind us from those not starting - having their support on the sideline is an extra boost that you need so it’s good.

“I received a pass set by Sophie (Mclean) and saw the keeper off the line, had a little look and chipped her! It’s nice to win the match 1-0, and I’m really happy.”

As alluded to, The Lilywhites will likely need a positive result against the table-toppers at Kingsmeadow if they’re to place themselves in a position to progress through the group with the top two teams making it to the quarter finals.

And with Chelsea playing Yeovil Town and Brighton & Hove Albion — the team most likely in direct competition for that second place — up against Bristol City, before Tottenham take on their London rivals, Karen Hills’ newcomers could have it all to do with the three teams currently sitting on six points.

Nevertheless, the former Chelsea prodigy Pickett has trust in their chances, having already seen off two Women’s Super League One teams in this competition.

“The girls are all positive - we’re up for the game and looking towards the challenge ahead because ultimately we want to be in that WSL One,” she added.

“It will be great to see how we compete and from playing other WSL 1 teams, we’ve matched them and beat them, so we’ve got a positive vibe in the club which we’re going to carry through.

“We have different characters in the team that help us. We’re not full time but when we’re training, we train like we’re a full time team. We put the hours in, the effort in, we train hard and that’s something that’s helping us compete.”
