National FA Women’s Premier League Reserve League Cup: Tottenham Hotspur 3 Blackburn Rovers 1 (AET)

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies reserves continued their dream season with a dramatic extra-time 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers to attain the National FA Women’s Premier League Reserve League Cup.

Ronnell Humes was the star of the show late on, scoring twice inside three minutes to complete a league and cup double — with a third cup final on the horizon.

Emily Smith and Humes combined for Shakira Waithe to head over at the near-post. Georgia Stevens looked to place across Chloe Morgan, who saved down to her right. Ria Montgomery’s drilled corner found Alice Adams to fire wide of the upright.

The Lilywhites opened the scoring inside 11 minutes. Humes broke to the left, cut inside floating a delightful delivery to Amy Makewell rushing in at the far-post, who volleyed first time.

Humes floated a cross to Makewell, she popped off to Cheryl Williams to fire from 25-yards for Katie Maher to react low. Makewell’s vital touch sent Humes away, who cut in off the left firing inches over the crossbar. Montgomery paced down the right, attempted to find Stevens making the run in behind, but Sophie Tudor read the danger to steer clear.

Smith recycled with Williams to win a throw-in, Shona Chitate took to Makewell, who curled wide of the near-post from a tight angle. Ella McCamon shimmied into the area looking to curl over Morgan in a one-on-one, who somehow saved from point-blank.

Williams’ corner was flicked-on by Leanne Mabey at the near-post towards Chitate, who couldn’t guide on target. Humes’ corner was headed to the near-post by Mabey, only for Walsh to block on the line.

Kelly Smith broke forward, played out to Humes whose curler to the back-post was latched onto by Emily Smith sneaking in, who found Walsh recover in time.

Montgomery rolled across to Stevens six-yards out, forcing Mabey into a goal-saving challenge. Kelly Smith crossed deep to Makewell for an overhead kick which missed the target. Montgomery’s placement was tipped away by Morgan on the stretch.

Humes floated to Williams whose swerving strike evaded the top left from afar.

Humes broke to the inside left, attempting to curl past Maher who stayed big to make the stop. Blackburn equalised late, on 87 minutes. Leigh Wightman prodded in Abby Bennett’s corner towards the near-post.

Makewell burst through the centre, placing wide on the stretch. Ellie Doggett broke on the right, rolled across to Ebony Stimpson, who from six-yards was denied by Morgan from point-blank.

Into extra-time, Belle Shannon looped towards Makewell, she laid off to Humes firing inches wide on the turn. Humes dinked past Maher, forcing Chelsey Jukes to deny the ball rolling in.

Montgomery fired low and inches wide on the stretch, prior to the defining moment arriving in the 109th minute. Shannon burst to the edge, hustled for possession rolling across to Humes who curled home. A finish of the highest order arrived on time, Shannon looped a pass over the top for Humes to control, set and roll across into the far corner.

Spurs: Morgan, K Smith (Leacock 76), Mabey, Tudor, E Smith, Chitate, Masters, Williams (Baldwin 90), Makewell, Humes, Waithe (Shannon 84).
