Mauricio Pochettino’s team have been handed a good draw in the FA Cup, but will come up against three players with links to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur will host AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup, with the tie set to be played between January 5-8.

The Dons, who ply their trade in League One, will relish the prospect of returning to Wembley after winning promotion under the arch in May 2016.

Former Spurs player and manager Glenn Hoddle conducted the draw at non-league Slough Town this evening alongside fellow ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas and the pair ensured Mauricio Pochettino’s side avoided another Premier League club.

Wimbledon will likely visit Wembley on Sunday January 7 and Neal Ardley’s side have a number of players in their squad with links to the north Londoners.

Hampstead-born Dean Parrett has been with the Dons since the summer of 2016, but progressed through the youth ranks at Spurs.

Another former Tottenham academy graduate in the Wimbledon squad is Andy Barcham and he’ll relish the chance to take on the Lilywhites in January.

Dons midfielder George Francomb was also with Spurs until he was 14, so the trio will be delighted with the draw.

After reaching the semi-finals last season, Pochettino will hope their match with the League One club is the start of another successful FA Cup campaign.

Meanwhile the Premier League match between Tottenham and West Ham United originally scheduled for December 31 has now been moved to Thursday January 4 (8pm kick-off).

Sky Sports will still broadcast the fixture live, but it has been put back due to a number of safety reasons.

A joint-statement put on both official club websites, read: “The fixture had originally been provisionally scheduled for Sunday 31 December.

“However, despite significant work by all stakeholders, the Safety Advisory Group could only recommend a maximum crowd of 43,000.

“This was due to transport issues, primarily at local tube stations whose resources were being deployed elsewhere across London on New Year’s Eve.

“Following extensive discussions between all parties, a decision has been taken to move the fixture into the New Year so more supporters, home and away, can attend the game.

“Once again, we should like to apologise to supporters for the delay in confirming details for this fixture and for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
