Tim Sherwood reports that Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Paulinho are all in contention to return from injury when Tottenham visit Hull tomorrow.

Centre-backs Vertonghen and Kaboul are yet to play for Sherwood due to the length of their absences, while midfielder Paulinho has missed the last five games after limping out of the 3-0 home win over Stoke on December 29.

“There are a few coming back,” said Sherwood. “Andros [Townsend] and Erik Lamela are not training but everyone else is up for selection, which is good news. On deadline day it’s like having new signings.

“Jan Vertonghen’s back in – so is Younes Kaboul and Paulinho. What about Sandro? No.”

Paulinho put in a strong display against Stoke on his last outing, before suffering ankle ligament damage after a tackle from Charlie Adam.

Sherwood said: “I was impressed, I think I’ve said before that he gave me a right eye-opener in that game and he’s certainly in contention for tomorrow.

“I’ve watched Jan from afar and he’s possibly the best left-sided centre-back in the division. We’ve just got to make sure that if I put him back in he’s right to perform.”

There have been rumours that Spurs might recall Jake Livermore from his loan spell at Hull before the transfer window closes tonight, but Sherwood has poured cold water on the reports.

“Before tomorrow it would be handy,” he joked. “He can’t play anyway tomorrow, but Jake’s a good player and we’ll welcome him back in the summer.

“It’s been a great loan for Jake, he’s churned out the games in the Premier League, which is what we wanted him to do.

“It happened with Danny Rose when we sent him up to Sunderland, just to get those games under their belts, to prove to everyone that they can perform against our opposition.”

While Livermore will be ineligible to face his parent club tomorrow, Spurs are likely to come up against one of their former players, Tom Huddlestone, who was sold to Hull last summer.

“I think he’s been fantastic,” said Sherwood. “It’s obviously a massive coup for a club like Hull, with respect, to get a player of the quality of Tom Huddlestone and I think Brucie [Steve Bruce] has appreciated the qualities that Tom’s brought to that side. I’m just hoping he has a shocker tomorrow.

“We brought in a lot of other players and sometimes players can be at a club too long and become stale.

“He [Huddlestone] looks like he’s got a new lease of life. He’s not missed football either – he had a lot of injury problems here at Tottenham, so the club have made the choice to move on and we brought in some excellent players.

“They [Hull] have added a few players, [Nikica] Jelavic and [Shane] Long, and I’m sure Tom will be getting that right-foot wand ready to be hitting them on the run. We’re hoping to stop that supply to their front players and get on the front foot ourselves.”
