Jan Vertonghen has urged his Tottenham team-mates to keep their Europa League campaign alive by eliminating Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk at White Hart Lane tonight.

Spurs trail 1-0 in the last-32 tie following the first leg in Ukraine, but Vertonghen is keen to overturn the deficit on home turf.

“I know the Europa League from games that I played in Holland, and it’s a very nice league,” he said. “Sometimes it doesn’t show, because of the places you need to travel to, but it’s a nice league and last year everybody saw it.

“We had games against Lyon and Inter Milan and then it’s a very good competition. Getting to a semi-final and final and winning it is an unbelievable achievement.

“For me the tournament’s still very important, it would be very nice to win one.

“Of course it can give you confidence [for the league too], and it’s good for us that we have a game so soon to bounce back [from the defeat against Norwich]. It’s good in every way.”
