Momentum is an important part of football and it appears Spurs have started to build some at the most crucial of times.

Prior to transfer deadline day, January 31, Tottenham Hotspur had failed to win at Southampton and been taken to a replay by Newport County in the FA Cup.

Ahead of a pivotal set of games it was far from ideal preparation, but Mauricio Pochettino’s team are now bang in form again.

Last Wednesday (January 31) Spurs put on a show as they won 2-0 at home to Manchester United when it really could have been four or five.

Christian Eriksen netted after 11 seconds and Phil Jones made it 2-0 with an own-goal in the 28th minute, but Kane and Heung-min Son both missed great chances.

After such a dominant display, confidence was high heading into Sunday’s clash at Anfield and a thrilling encounter occurred.

Mo Salah put Liverpool in front early on and after a below-par first half performance, Spurs were able to regroup and impose themselves on the game.

It was no surprise when Victor Wanyama’s rocket levelled the scores in Merseyside, but Kane’s saved penalty seemed costly when Salah’s mazy run and sublime finish made it 2-1 to the hosts.

Kane and Tottenham were not to be denied a point as the away side were awarded a second spot-kick and the England forward made no mistake to salvage a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

With Chelsea suffering back-to-back defeats during the same period, Spurs are now only a point behind the Blues heading into Saturday’s north London derby at Wembley (12.30pm).

Having seen their top-four ambitions take a hit at St Mary’s three weeks ago, Pochettino’s team are now back on track.

Arsenal, as always is the case when it comes to a derby match, will not be a pushover and they also have some renewed hope.

New signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan impressed in the Gunners 5-1 win over Everton, but Spurs have plenty of belief.

After Saturday, the Lilywhites visit Italy to take on Juventus for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.

This is a really big week for Tottenham, but they approach it with confidence and key players back from injury.

At the most crucial time in the season, everything is falling into place for Spurs and Pochettino, but can they make the most of it?
