EXCLUSIVE: Ben Davies believes he is finding his rhythm at Tottenham after his fifth successive start, and the summer signing has rated Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace as one of his best performances for the club.
Spurs’ inconsistent Premier League form continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Neil Warnock’s side at White Hart Lane. Indeed, the visitors could easily have won the game after producing the best chances in the closing stages.
But Davies’ performance was a bright spot, with the left-back defending solidly and getting forward to good effect – particularly when he delivered a low cross to Roberto Soldado, who fired wastefully over in the first half.
Davies had to wait until last month’s trip to Hull for his first Premier League start for Tottenham, but the 21-year-old feels he has benefited from his recent run in the side in the absence of the injured Danny Rose – and he was not entirely despondent about the weekend’s result.
“At the beginning of the game we were looking to get the three points but, as the game wore on, I think we were trying to get the clean sheet after soaking up some pressure, and we’ll take the point,” said the Welshman.
“Was that my best game so far? I think it’s one of them. In the last couple of games I’ve been pretty solid. It’s nice to get a run in the team because coming in and out can be quite difficult – it’s hard to get your rhythm. I thought I had a solid game and offered a bit going forward as well.
“The more you play with your team-mates the more they know what runs I’m going to make and how I can get into space. It takes time for everyone to get used to each other.
“Being with the same people at the back definitely helps. With Jan [Vertonghen] on my side especially, we’ve played together most times I’ve played this season so it’s nice to have that understanding together and that partnership, and I think it’s been working pretty well.”
