Tim Sherwood says he will give his full attention to the Europa League as Tottenham start their preparations for next week’s trip to face Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in Ukraine.

And the head coach says his Tottenham squad is perfectly capable of competing on two fronts for the rest of the season, having already been eliminated from the League Cup and FA Cup.

Sherwood’s predecessors had wildly contrasting views on the Europa League. Harry Redknapp described it as “a nightmare” which “kills you off” when it comes to sustaining a top-four challenge.

On the other hand, Villas-Boas had “respect” for the tournament and said Spurs were using it as “an education for the future”.

Liverpool and Everton, who are not involved in Europe, will certainly be pleased to see Spurs travelling to Ukraine next Thursday as the Lilywhites prepare to lock horns with their former manager Juande Ramos in the first leg of their last-32 tie against Dnipro.

And, if they were to reach the final, Sherwood’s side would have to play an extra nine games on top of their Premier League fixtures.

However the Spurs boss – who has lost both of his cup matches to date – is ready to use his squad and have a go at winning the continental competition.

“I love it [the Europa League],” said Sherwood. “There are a lot of games coming up but we haven’t got to worry about that.

“We’re out of the rest of the competitions and we’ve got a big enough squad here to cope.

“There will be opportunities for other people to play because the games will come thick and fast and you’re playing on Thursday and Sunday.

“You’re going to have to rest a few or maybe just change the selection.”
