Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood believes that his side’s 1-1 draw with Hull could prove to be an important point for his side at the end of the season.

Shane Long had given the hosts an early lead in the first half but Paulinho levelled the scores just after the hour mark.

And the biggest positive for the Spurs boss was that his side adopted the ‘if we can’t win, we don’t lose’ philosophy.

“It was a poor start to the game for us – to concede so early,” Sherwood said. “I wasn’t panicking because I thought there was time for us to get back into the game.

“We grew into it in the latter part of the first half and in the second half we started to roll the ball into [Emmanuel] Adebayor and [Roberto] Soldado in and around the box.

“It looked like we were going to score. We managed to get back in it with a great goal from Paulinho.

“One thing was for sure – if we weren’t going to win we certainly weren’t going to lose and that’s the pleasing thing for me.

“At the end of the season it could prove to be an important point for both sides.”

Hull have beaten Liverpool at the KC Stadium this season as well as giving Manchester United a scare and Sherwood is not surprised his team had a tough game on Humberside.

“I expected it to be tough,” he said. “We’ve some top teams come here and struggle.

“They’re capable. They’ve got their own threats – the two signings up front.

“Long gave us some problems and took his goal very very well.

“We had to show some character and dig in. I didn’t think there was any panic from us – I thought we were in control of the game.

“I’m disappointed we haven’t come here and won but you don’t always get what you want.”
