Mauricio Pochettino defended his rotation policy after Tottenham fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round.

Spurs were leading from an Andros Townsend penalty until the 83rd minute at White Hart Lane, when Leonardo Ulloa equalised before Jeff Schlupp’s stoppage time winner.

Townsend and goalkeeper Michel Vorm were the only players retained from the midweek Capital One Cup semi-final win over Sheffield United, but Pochettino insisted his team selection was not the reason for the defeat.

He said: “This (rotation) is our way since the beginning of our season, and I do not think this is a reason to justify the result.

“During the game we played well, but you need to kill the game. We created chances, but also gave Leicester the chance to be alive.

“We are out of the FA Cup, and for that I am very disappointed.”
