TOTTENHAM'S woes showed no sign of abating in their lacklustre goalless draw with Wigan on Sunday.

Darren Bent was again paired up front with Roman Pavlyuchenko while Gareth Bale was pushed forward to the left of midfield. David Bentley, Jamie O'Hara and skipper Jermaine Jenas gave Juande Ramos's men an added attacking option.

Spurs initially tore through the visitor's defence. Their first chance came in the fifth minute when they were awarded a free kick but Bentley's strike was cleared.

The next chance came three minutes later when Pavlyuchenko won the ball and turned in front of goal but blasted over the bar.

But Spurs failed to test Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland and the visitors started to fight back. Heurelho Gomes did well to clear Emile Heskey's 31st minute free kick and then was forced to deal with a trio of Wigan attacks. The Latics continued to attack and Gomes was again pressed into action to block Paul Scharner's strike.

Frazier Campbell came on for Pavlyuchenko in the second half but Spurs remained toothless. Their sole highlight was a penalty appeal when Aaron Lennon appeared to be tripped by Maynor Figueroa. Spurs searched in vain for a late winner but Wigan looked the better team in the closing minutes.

SPURS PLAYER OF THE GAME: Heurelho Gomes: Kept his first clean sheet.

Team: Gomes 7, Zokora 5, Woodgate 5, Corluka 6, Assou-Eketto 5, Bentley 5 (Lennon 6 64), Jenas 5, O'Hara 5, Bale 6, (Huddlestone 5 80), Bent 5, Pavlyuchenko 5, (Campbell 5 46). subs not used: Cesar, Gilberto, Gunter, Giovani.
