England staff want to assess Kyle Walker’s injury ahead of World Cup

Tim Sherwood says England’s medical staff are planning to visit the club and assess Kyle Walker’s pelvic injury as the right-back sweats on his World Cup place.
Walker has missed eight Tottenham games, with his last appearance coming in the home defeat against Benfica on March 13, and Roy Hodgson’s staff are now anxious to see whether he will fit to play for England in Brazil this summer.
“I think the decision is that the England physios and doctor will come and assess Kyle and then make a decision on him,” said Sherwood.
“At the moment there’s been no definite decision from my side whether he’ll play for Tottenham before the end of the season, and from Roy whether he’s on that plane to Brazil.
“They’ll have to hurry up because we finish next week, so I think it would possibly be next week.
“If he’s clinically fit enough to play I think Kyle’s fit enough to get himself to a [good] level between now and the start of that World Cup. He’d have a few games to prepare. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.”
Andros Townsend has already been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury at Stoke last weekend.
“It’s a real shame for Andros, he’s obviously devastated,” said Sherwood. “I spoke to Roy yesterday. Obviously no decision was made regarding Andros but he was 100 per cent in his thinking [that he was in contention] because of the contribution that he’d already made to the team, and the reason they’re all on the plane.
“He’s had the operation and it’s gone well apparently, and he’s just got to look forward now. He’s going to have plenty more World Cups, Andros Townsend, and he just needs to make sure he gets back fit and playing well for his club side and get that opportunity to play for England again. I’m sure it will come round again.”
Sherwood does not expect to have any new players available for selection as Spurs prepare to visit West Ham in tomorrow’s London derby.
He said: “[Jan] Vertonghen’s been training and [Etienne] Capoue’s been training but I think this game will be a little bit too soon for them.”
