Andre Villas-Boas is intent on guiding Tottenham to Wembley again this year as Spurs begin their FA Cup campaign against Coventry on Saturday.

The Lilywhites reached the semi-finals under Harry Redknapp in 2012 before losing 5-1 to Villas-Boas’ former club Chelsea – then managed by Roberto di Matteo – at Wembley.

Spurs’ head coach hopes to take Tottenham a step further this time, and he is urging his players to dispatch League One outfit Coventry with the minimum of fuss at White Hart Lane this weekend.

“It’s a big competition and we don’t want any cup upsets,” said Villas-Boas. “We understand that we are superior and at home.

“It will be excellent if we can match last year’s run to the semi-finals but we want to reach the final and win the competition. It will be difficult – you need to play well and you need some luck in the draw.”
