Southampton manager Nigel Adkins Adkins is planning to name a stronger line-up than used in the Capital One Cup for the FA Cup third-round tie with holders Chelsea on Saturday.
Adam Lallana remains out with a knee injury, although Nathaniel Clyne could come into contention and Gaston Ramirez is available after sustaining a dead leg against Arsenal.
Emmanuel Mayuka is also available before leaving for African Nations Cup duty with Zambia.
“The Capital One Cup was a great opportunity to play some of the younger players, who have now gone on to play for us in the Premier League,” Adkins said.
“I want to go and win the game against Chelsea, but I also have to be mindful that we have had a run of fixtures that are very close together.
“I have to make sure we arrive on the pitch on Saturday full of energy and not risking anyone picking up a serious injury.”
