We take a look back at some of this week’s most interesting, funny and downright bizarre comments from the world of sport.

“We’re talking about possibly the best coach of all time. [Working with him] was a unique experience. It’s difficult to find someone with so much professionalism, dedication and knowledge of the game.”

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas on Jose Mourinho.

“It is very difficult because the level of expectation is very high - people want to see Lionel Messi come in, they don’t want to see a promising guy. First of all the name gives hope. When a guy has no name people are already sceptical, so it’s much more difficult for us.”

Arsene Wenger bemoans Arenal fans for only wanting big name signing at the Emirates.

“Everybody else thought I was mad but I do genuinely believe it. We’re not doomed, we can turn it around. If we keep working hard for the rest of the season we’ll win games away and at home. We have to make the most of that.”

Harry Redknapp on QPR’s survival hopes.

“That was the hardest thing for me, because Harry gave me my first chance and I will be forever indebted to him, but there was too much here at West Ham for me to say no. The only hard thing was turning down Harry because I love him and I would not be the player I was if it wasn’t for him.”

West Ham new boy Joe Cole admits it wasn’t easy rejecting his old mentor Harry Redknapp at QPR.

“He kicked a nice ball and looked confident. He looks all right.”

Former Liverpool and Man City goalkeeper David James, now at Bournemouth, praises Brentford keeper Simon Moore.

“I got David James’ shirt after the game. I was watching Premier League Years and he was on there. 1992-93 season. To get a compliment from someone like that is huge.”

Brentford goalkeeper Moore reacts to David James’ praise.

“Anything can happen in football and I know they will be strong favourites but it is 11 v 11 and they are only human so we have to make sure we perform to our best if they don’t.”

Coventry captain Carl Baker on his side’s FA Cup tie against Spurs.

“We lost in the semi-finals to Newcastle in 1999 and I have to say that I’m still disappointed. If we could have played an FA Cup Final at Wembley... I can’t say nothing is bigger than that but it is definitely a fantastic moment for anyone who has played the game.”

Spurs coach Steffan Freund on the FA Cup.

“I love the competition. When I played in England with West Brom it was always special. Most of the time, if not all the time, they were sell-outs and for a lot of teams a reason to spark up your season, to do something nice. That is what I always thought of the FA Cup.”

Martin Jol declares his love for the FA Cup.

“I was asked by one agent if I wanted to sign Sneijder. Of course I do. However, he’s on about £200,000 a week and now he wants to join QPR? I won’t name the agent, but let’s just say I think a deal is unlikely.”

Harry Redknapp on QPR’s chances of signing Wesley Sneijder.

“It is great to have KP back in the one-day side. I can’t speak highly enough of the way he went about things in India. As a captain it is great to have a player like him back fresh and desperate to score runs for England.”

England’s Alastair Cook on the return of Kevin Pietersen to the England fold.
