CSS League Challenge Cup first round: Metropolitan Police 1 (Gilbert 71) Hendon 0

Hendon are out of the CSS League Challenge Cup after a 1-0 defeat away to Metropolitan Police.

The match at Imber Court was goalless at the interval, with the Greens rarely threatening the opposition goal in the first half.

James Gray’s men improved after the interval, with Cole Brown narrowly unable to get on the end of Prince Mbengui’s cross into the box.

Mathias Bakare then hit the post with a curling effort from the edge of the area, before Gianni Crichlow also hit the woodwork with Tyriq Hunte’s follow-up saved by the Police stopper.

The Silver Jubilee Park outfit also had a goal ruled out, before the Met took the lead through John Gilbert in the 71st minute.

Try as they might, Hendon could not find an equaliser as they suffered an early exit from the cup.

The Greens will hope to respond on Saturday when they entertain Wimborne Town in the Evo-Stik South Premier South.
