Ryman North play-off semi-final: Maldon & Tiptree 5 (Nash 6, 12p, 20, Newson 51, Mills 83) Haringey Borough 4 (Richards 14, Gabriel 49, 76, Benjamin 90)

Haringey Borough’s promotion quest ended in the play-off semi-finals after a 5-4 loss There has been plenty of drama in recent Borough games, having edged Bowers & Pitsea in a nine-goal thriller on Easter Monday and needing an 86th-minute winner against Norwich United.

Away to the Jammers, though, Tom Loizou’s men got off to a disastrous start as Liam Nash opened the scoring for the hosts in the sixth minute.

Nash was at the double from the penalty spot six minutes later, though Rakim Richards did pull a goal back for Haringey in the 12th minute.

Maldon forward Nash, however, was clearly in the mood and was able to complete his hat-trick inside the first 20 minutes.

That was how things stayed until half-time, though Borough closed the gap to one again within four minutes of the restart.

With the game in the balance, Haringey conceded a fourth in the 51st minute as Sam Newson found the net for the hosts.

With 14 minutes left in the game, Borough appeared to have set up a tense finale when Gabriel found the net for a second time.

However, Adam Mills looked to have secured the win for Maldon when scoring in the 83rd minute.

To their credit, Borough continued to battle and gave themselves hope of another late, late show when Chris Benjamin made it 5-4 in the 90th minute.

But the Coles Park club could not find an equaliser in the time that remained as the curtain came down on the season for Haringey.

Haringey: Palmer, Olufemi, O’Donoghue, Dtassi-Sambu (Benjamin 58), Rowe, Sherriff, Aristidou, Richards, Gabriel, Durojaiye, Macdonald.

Subs: Willer, Clarke, Adams, Viner.

Attendance: 412.
