Lyon goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre admits it has been hard to forget Gareth Bale’s stunning free kick goals in the first leg of their Europa League tie at White Hart Lane last week.
Bale struck twice from long-range – the second coming in the 93rd minute – as Spurs beat the Ligue 1 side 2-1.
And Vercoutre, who replaced Hugo Lloris as Lyon’s number one last summer, says the Spurs shot-stopper has warned him that the Welshman has been practicing his set pieces in training.
“It was hard not to see [the goals] because of all the highlights that have been shown on television over the week,” said Vercoutre, who is hoping for an improved performance in tomorrow’s second leg.
“It’s difficult to stop something like that. He is very good at free-kicks. Hugo tells me that he has been practicing a lot.
“You could tell that White Hart Lane was holding its breath. I have had some practice with [former Lyon free-kick specialist] Juninho [Pernambucano] in the past so we will see if that helps.”
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
