Low’s on a high as he maintains ever-present record in London Marathon

Highgate Harriers’ Roger Low ran in his 34th London Marathon on Sunday, crossing the line as the fourth fastest ever-present runner in a time of four hours 18 minutes 29 seconds.

The 70-year-old has run every London Marathon since its inception in 1981 and he completed the 26.3-mile course among a select band of 15 athletes who have taken part in every event.

Scott clocked 2:22:40 in 2011 but, despite not hitting the same heights, he was ahead of Edward Kerry (2:43:09), Dan Higgins (2:43:14), Duncan Burbidge (2:45.04) and Marcus Green (2:49:29).

Suniti Waddell ran 2:57:25 and was the 42nd woman across the line, while David Bruce won the White Horse Half Marathon at Grove by 11 seconds in 1:10:57.

Meanwhile, Jon Laybourn (15:49.6) finished second in the 5,000m at Highgate’s first open track meeting of the year on at Parliament Hill Fields, ahead of Tom Christopher (16:03.04) in fourth.

Michael Ussher (18:09.03) led a field of 21 to take top spot in the Over-50 category, while Jonathan Oviasu placed second in the 300m in 38.93, ahead of Matt Dore-Weeks (39.08) in fourth.

Under-17 runner, Arnold Mensuoh, won the 300m in a time of 38.6 and finished second in the 100m in 12.23, while his younger brother, Herbert (13.46) was second in the Under-15 100m, and his sister Linnet completed the family theme with third place in the 100m in 14.83.
