Greens won 3-2 at home to Wimborne Town in Evo-Stik South Premier South last weekend

Hendon will want to take their brilliant Evo-Stik South Premier South form into Saturday’s FA Trophy first qualifying round clash at home to Staines Town.

The Greens face their divisional rivals in the cup having won each of their last five matches in the league.

The latest success for James Gray’s men came on Saturday as they beat Wimborne Town 3-2 at home.

The Silver Jubilee Park outfit took the lead in just the fourth minute, with Romario Jonas on target.

The Magpies drew level through Toby Holmes seven minutes later, but Hendon hit the front again with 10 minutes remaining in the half when Ricardo German scored.

With a minute left in the half, Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick then hit the back of the net to give the Greens a 3-1 advantage at the interval.

Wimborne pulled one back in the 61st minute when Franklyn Clarke netted, but Gray’s men held on to win.

It was a fifth league win in succession for the Silver Jubilee Park outfit, but boss Gray was left wanting more from his team’s display.

“The result was better than the performance, which is a good place to be,” the Hendon manager told the club website.

“We were a bit naïve in a lot of the things we did. We didn’t keep the ball well enough for what we want to try and do.

“We scored some great goals individually, but as a team it didn’t really work too well.

“We can’t put our finger on it and I said to the boys after the game that the result was better than the performance, so we have a hell of a lot to work on in training.”

Attention now turns to Saturday’s FA Trophy clash at home to Staines, with winners of ties in the first qualifying round collecting £3,250 in prize money.

And Gray is all too aware how much of a boost that money would be for the Greens.

“It’s a big game because we need the money to try and keep the squad as strong as we can,” added the Hendon manager.

“There are certain players we’re speaking to at the minute that may help us if we can try to strengthen.”
