Haringey Borough have laid the roots for a bright future after installing an immaculate 3G playing surface at their Coles Park home in Wood Green.

Borough, who were promoted from the Essex Senior League to Ryman League Division One North in 2015, have matched their progress on the pitch with renovations off the field.

A new clubhouse has been erected at the ground on White Hart Lane, along with dressing rooms, floodlights and perimeter fencing – and the investment in a top-quality artificial pitch, which has been a long-term goal for chairman Aki Achillea, has been the final step.

A major construction project was completed in less than three months by contractors S & C Slatters.

And, now that the wear and tear on a natural grass pitch is no longer a concern, the aim is for Haringey to add to their existing teams and offer an unparalleled football facility to the wider community.

Achillea said: “The facility is now one of the best, if not the best, in our league and will help us attract the very best of local talent to the club, and help us achieve our aims of progression within the non-league pyramid.

“The additional income from hiring the ground will give us a much-needed financial injection to secure the long-term future of the club.

“We have now added an Under-21 youth side to the Ryman Development League for this season and we intend to have a new Under-18 team next season, while we are actively looking at a second women’s team as well.”

Manager Tom Loizou added: “The transformation is complete. When I arrived six years ago I was told of the plans by the chairman, and his hard work and endeavour have reached fruition.

“Now the club has a facility to be proud of and it will help me to attract the players needed to further the ambitions of the club. The new pitch is amazing in terms of quality and has passed the FIFA pro test, making it as good as anything the national team train and play on.

“We have plans to hold coaching clinics for the less able as well as looking towards an academy to develop the amazing local talent.”

Haringey will host Dereham Town in their season opener on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and, in a bid to introduce people to the club, they are offering a free season ticket worth £161 to all 23 Ryman League home games.

Interest can be registered by emailing The new surface will also be available to hire in the evenings for local sides, and anyone who is interested is also invited to contact the club.

Haringey lost their unbeaten pre-season record in their final friendly on Saturday, going down 2-1 at home against Ryman League Premier Division outfit Enfield Town.

Enfield’s Mickey Parcell struck five minutes before the break and, in first-half injury time, the referee awarded the visitors a penalty for handball and Billy Crook converted. Borough’s Ishmail Kamara then hit back with the last kick of the game.
