Teenage defender impressed at centre back on his last outing for the Blues in the 5-0 win at Biggleswade Town in the FA Trophy

Wingate & Finchley could already have a ready-made replacement for Joe Kizzi in their current squad.

Bostik Premier rivals Billericay Town announced on Monday the signing of former Blues centre back Kizzi.

But in the shape of Jake Eales, Wingate could have someone capable of stepping in to fill the void.

The former QPR youngster signed for the Maurice Rebak Stadium club this summer after leaving Loftus Road.

Most of his appearances to date for Wingate have been at right-back, but he moved into the middle for the 5-0 win at Biggleswade Town on October 28 and impressed.

With Kizzi now at Billericay, the youngster will look to cement his place in the heart of the Blues defence over the coming weeks.

“I was very pleased with the win and the boys played well,” Eales told Wingate TV after the FA Trophy success at Biggleswade.

“After the disappointment at Kingstonian (2-1 defeat on October 21), we needed to get a win and score a couple of goals and we did that.

“I thought it went well at centre back. I’ve played there at academy level and I tried to win my headers and to pick up a clean sheet was good.”

Wingate were 3-0 up at half time of the FA Trophy tie thanks to goals from Sean Cronin, Luke Ifil and Rob Laney.

Eales was keen to see Keith Rowland’s side not rest on their laurels following the interval and it proved to be the case.

Reece Beckles-Richards and Ahmet Rifat added further second half goals to give Wingate a comprehensive victory.

“You always worry about complacency going into the second half with a comfortable lead, but we grinded it out and got the goals in the end,” said Eales.
