Highgate Harriers youngster Terry Fawden produced an outstanding run to finish ninth in the Under-15 race at the national championships in Nottinghamshire.

Fawden completed the 4.5km course in 14 minutes 28 seconds – finishing ahead of two-time Metropolitan League champion Jamie Philpott – to help Highgate to 19th place out of 33 teams.

The Harriers’ senior men’s team suffered a blow when David Bruce had drop out well before the finish of the 10km course, probably costing them the chance of a medal.

Despite that, Highgate finished seventh (with six to score) and sixth (with nine to score), with all their first six runners inside the top 150 on the day.

Audun Nordtveit was their fastest finisher in 13th place (37:20), followed by Shaun Dixon (32nd, 38:02), Danny Russell (39th, 38:13), Ben Noad (68th, 38:53), Ryan McKinlay (82nd, 39:08) and Henry Dodwell (145th, 40:27).

Highgate’s senior women placed 18th out of 83 teams over 8km, with Ashley Scott (32:05) their fastest finisher in 64th. Cecily Turner was 149th place in the Under-13 girls’ event, while Hannah Viner (33rd, 24: 25) and Hattie Brock (53rd, 25:05) were both well-placed in the Under-20 race.
