Camden Fencing Club hosted the Camden LPJS foil tournament at Acland Burghley Sports Centre – and the home club came away with three medals.
The competition attracted entries from 240 fencers in 10 age categories, including young fencers from all over England as well as a small contingent from Scotland.
Camden entered 16 of their own fencers and were rewarded by Jean-Baptiste Baigneres’ gold medal in the Under-11 boys’ category, while Nathanael Alford picked up the silver in the same age category and his younger brother Tristian also grabbed a silver in the Under-nine class.
Charlie Baigneres reached the last eight or ‘final tableau’ in the Under-nine competition – as did Louis Decaudaveine in the Under-11 age group and Benjamin Stezaker in the Under-13s event.
The club’s success reflects the growing popularity of their foil programme since triple Olympian and European Championship medallist Richard Kruse joined the coaching team, along with double Olympian and European Champion Gabriella Varga, last season.
Kruse and James Davis – Britain’s top-ranked senior men’s foilists – refereed throughout the tournament on both days as well as presenting medals.
