Greens sit top after triumph on Tuesday

Hendon boss Gary McCann says he’s pleased to be at the top of the Bostik North after a 1-0 win at home to Needham Market on Tuesday took his team to the summit.

Zak Joseph netted the game’s only goal in the 25th minute at Silver Jubilee Park to give McCann’s charges the triumph.

Hendon now lead the way, though only on goal difference from Dulwich Hamlet, but McCann is happy to be top regardless.

“I am pleased to get the win tonight and top of the table is a nice place to be, admittedly with more games played,” said the Greens manager.

“It wasn’t one of our best performances and I think the game on Saturday took a lot out of us.

“We freshened up the team in certain areas and the players who came in did well. Our squad is strong enough that we could overcome this, even against a team which had not played for 10 days.

“It shows where we are as a group that even though we could not find top gear we were still in control for most of the game.

“When the opposing team has their centre-half and goalkeeper as the two best players in the match, it shows which team was on top.

“I felt we looked dangerous whenever we attacked but lacked that final ball on too many occasions. Our defence rarely looked in trouble even when they had some territorial advantage.

“I brought on Dave Diedhiou to give us a bit more strength in midfield and he made a difference.

“Their two danger men Luke Ingram and Gareth Heath barely had a look-in and shows how much on top we were.”
