The 21-year-old Moncur departed the National League club last month and despite offers from elsewhere, he decided to link up with Keith Rowland’s team again

Wingate & Finchley coach Dean Barker is confident Freddy Moncur will have a big role to play at the Maurice Rebak Stadium club this season.

The energetic midfielder signed for the Bostik Premier outfit on February 14 – five days after he left Leyton Orient by mutual consent.

Moncur only made 11 appearances in all competitions for the O’s, despite making his debut in the 2015/16 campaign, as he found chances hard to come by working under a number of different managers at Brisbane Road.

A successful loan spell at Bishop’s Stortford during October and November still wasn’t enough for the 21-year-old to get a first-team chance at Orient and he has linked up with Keith Rowland’s Blues on a permanent basis now after two previous loan spells with the north Londoners.

The poor weather of late has meant Moncur has only played twice for Wingate since signing and one of the coaches at the club called for patience when it comes to the talented, hard-working midfielder.

“I know Freddy had a lot of offers, but Keith was really keen to get him over and we are all delighted to have him back at the club,” said Blues under-23 boss Barker.

“He has not played many games this season, so I think it will take him a little bit of time to get up to speed, but I’m sure he will be a big player for us. It’s a great signing.”

Moncur joining the Bostik Premier club was not the only deal to take place between Wingate and the O’s in recent months.

Youngster Charley Barker recently enjoyed a loan spell at Summers Lane while the Blues also have former Orient youth-teamer Jack Humphrey’s in their ranks now.

Going the other way, Justin Edinburgh signed left-back Nathan Mavila from Wingate in February on a deal until the end of the season.

The former West Ham United academy graduate has yet to make his O’s debut, but is understood to have fitted in well at Brisbane Road.

Barker revealed his delight for Mavila and praised the way eighth-placed Wingate have handled losing some of their best players throughout the campaign.

He added: “It was great for us to know a club like Leyton Orient are watching our players and Nathan is a top lad.

“Nathan was always at training and always available for matches and I think he really deserved this chance.

“We have lost quite a few players to big clubs throughout the season, Joe Kizzi went to Billericay Town, Spencer (McCall) signed for Hemel Hempstead Town and of course Nathan went to Leyton Orient.

“Everyone at Wingate was so delighted for Nathan and I’m sure he will do well there, he is a really great lad.”
